Dear hearts,

Popping in with a tender ask today — could you please send up a prayer or two for my dear husband? He’s having a total hip replacement today. He has high-maintenance dance partners in tow: Houseguest with Lewy Body Dementia (HWLBD) and Capgras Syndrome (CS), and they both tend to make any hospital visit feel like a circus with no ringmaster.

The surgeon is kind and capable — and I’m grateful for that — but I’m not sure he fully understands how much mischief Lewy and Capgras can stir up after surgery. I’ve asked that my hubby stay in the hospital a couple of days, or even go to inpatient rehab if needed, just to keep the peace and prevent any Where is my real wife?! drama.

He’ll be getting a spinal block instead of general anesthesia (thank the heavens) and they’re keeping opioids to a bare minimum — only if absolutely needed. Still, I’m nervous. After what happened during his last surgery a few years back — and a recent ER trip that ended in stitches and confusion — I know I can’t handle this recovery alone at home. And I shouldn’t have to.

So… if you have a moment today, please pray that the medical team does the right thing. That they truly see my sweet man as more than a chart. That they honor what his brain needs, not just his hip.

And if you’re walking a similar road today — please know I’m holding you close in my heart too. We’re not alone, even when it feels like it.

With love,
🫖 Nora (and Lewy and Capgras, sigh…)
